best platform for ecommerce

Okay to begin just by looking at the numbers you can see the top three choices made by business owners with ecommerce websites. So now I am sure you want to know why and heres where we will get down to the nitty gritty.

WooCommerce

Pros:

WooCommerce is a plugin installed in the famous micro blogging platform WordPress, now some may argue that its no longer a blogging platform anymore but thats where it started. Some of the benefits is a massive amount of plugins that are free that can meet almost all your needs. This will save you a lot of time on development and finding a wordpress developer is easy and inexpensive as long as they know what they are doing. The platform is light weight and very user friendly supporting most major payment gateways and shipping providers.

Cons:

Constant updates which can lead to issues with free plugins that are not updated constantly by the developer. WordPress security is not that great and hacks can become common if you’re not the type of owner who can keep up with the constant updates that normally leads to breaks within your site.

Magento

Pros:

The most powerful ecommerce platform in the market, its very robust and provides extreme flexibility to business owners to manage their content, appearance and functionality. The platform is customizable to tailor your business needs that just do not come with a platform out of the box. Magento is highly regarded when it comes to performing SEO requirements to boost your search engine results. You can host multiple store from one admin and give each store a different look and feel. This is only scratching the surface of everything Magento can offer. Besides that, another plus is that the platform is very secure which is a major plus.

Cons:

Magento takes a lot of resources to get it going and if its not on the right server then it can perform very slow. Just think of it like this, you would not put a 4-cylinder car engine in a truck cause it will not have to power to pull the weight. This same concept goes for Magento. Therefore, the server costs can be costly depending on your volume.

OpenCart

Pros:

OpenCart is user friendly and the admin can be accessed via mobile or tablet which is a huge plus and something that is not currently offered by WooCommerce or Magento. It great for customizations and perfect for growth. It has reporting, coupons, affiliate marketing and everything you need to help you grow. Its supports most major payment gateways, shipping providers and has great security.

Cons:

Great for small businesses but for a larger company you may run into limitations and performance issues. SEO has improved but still cannot be compared to Magento and WooCommerce. There are a lot of plugins that can get what you need done but some things might not be available and will need customization.

I hope this article helps you find the best platform for ecommerce and will narrow down your decision making process drastically.
